HOW MAY ICT BE USED FOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE FIELD OF AGRICULTURE?

DIFFERENT AREAS IN WHICH ICT CAN BE USED

ICT is used in almost all aspects of life here we investigate the application of ICT in the field of agriculture. The following are the few points under which we can explained the importance of ICT in the field of agriculture.

  • The radio, computer and the internet in agriculture.
  • Institutional mechanisms and human capacity to link rural communities.
  • relevant agricultural information for different agencies taking part in the development of agriculture
  • Improving market access
  • relevant agricultural information for different agencies taking part in the development of agriculture Improving market access
  • Rural access and exchange mechanisms: connectivity and tele centers.
  • Importance of ICT in FERTILIZERS:
  • Grain chain , precision farming, and robotics in agriculture

THE BEGINNING OF ICT USE IN AGRICULTURE:

Today ICT is much commonly used in the field of agriculture as compared to a few years ago. In old ages the farmers would seek a mean in order to communicate with each other or with workers who had been working in other location. For this reason they would use messengers or postal services. But in doing so it would have taken a long time for there message to receive. This traditional postal service was replaced by telegraphy, because it was most reliable as compared to postal service, telegraphy was the early expansion of ICT.The farmers used to travel from one city to another to take advantage of this service. Then telegraphy was replaced by telephone and the farmer’s starts using this reliable service of ICT. Then internet when starts spreading the formers adopted this new service which was more reliable and inexpensive .Today the applications of ICT in agriculture is widespread.

ROBOTICS IN AGRICULTURE:

A robot is a machine that can be programmed and reprogrammed to do certain tasks usually consists of a manipulator such as claw, hand, or tool attached to a mobile body or a stationary platform and a centralized processing unit (mostly computer based) Robots are of many kind and commonly used robots in agriculture are autonomous Robots, Remote controlled Robots, tele controlled robots etc.

AGROBATS

AGROBATS is the combination of two words Agriculture and robots .AGROBATS can be defined as the computer based machines or simply agriculture robots that are programmed to do agriculture tasks and farm assignments .AGROBATS are commonly used in agriculture for different task to accomplished .Some common examples of AGROBATS are cow milking robots, mushroom picking robots, SLUG BOTS, harvesting robots etc. These robots are computer based robots and are controlled by computer.

MUSHROOM PICKING ROBOT

The mushroom picking robots picks the mushroom using a small suction cap on the end of its robotic arms. Mushroom picking robots has specially sensors and cameras through which it can perform most of its job, so the robot has a charged coupled camera fitted on one of its side which tell which mushroom to pick in a tray or bed, similarly this robots uses the camera to tell the exact size of the mushroom, mushrooms grow in dark, damp places that are often in hopital to humans. This makes the robot a perfect choice to work on a mushroom farm, the most intelligent robots work much faster than human and does not mind working in the night or for the whole day

COW MILKING ROBOT

Cow milking robots are commonly used in the dairy forms. Cow milking robots are used to milked the cows in dairy forms.Cows can decide that they want to be milked and walk into the milking parlor. After entering the cow a tag on the cow which contains electronic information about the cow is read by the computer, and if enough time has passed since the cow’s last milking, the cow is allowed to enter. The computer has images of each cow’s teats and how they are positioned. This helps the laser to find each teat and guide the robotic arm. Then vacuum milking cups are attached to the teats by the robots using special sensors and cameras, after milking the cow, the Information about the milking is sent to a computer for analysis. Using this system some dairies have seen an increase in milk production .

THE RADIO, TELEVISION, COMPUTER AND INTERNET IN AGRICULTURE:

RADIO IN AGRICULTURE

Through radio the farmers are informed occasionally and keeps the farmers updated with the agriculture information. Using radio they are given necessary instructions. Different programs and discussions are arranged among experts to familiarize the farmers with the basic problems .

TELEVISION IN AGRICULTURE

The television played a vital role in the field of agriculture; Live instruction is given to the farmers. Interviews and discussions are arranged among experts which familiarize the farmers with the basic problems related to agriculture. And agriculture related videos are displayed through television.

AGRICULTURE AND THE COMPUTER

Using computers the farmers can get access to the internet and other computer related resources, today computer based machinery is commonly used in the agriculture and its application in agriculture is wide spread .

AGRICULTURE AND THE INTERNET

The Internet proved to be a valuable tool for farmers and local NGO,S working in the agricultural extension field. Using this service of internet the farmers can investigate alternative markets as well as new agriculture strategies for their agriculture goods. Internet is widely used in the agriculture for different purposes.

ENHANCING AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION

ICT enhancing the agriculture production . ICT Increases the efficiency, productivity and sustainability of small scale farms is an area where ICT can make a significant contribution. Farming involves risks and uncertainties, with farmers facing many threats from poor soils, drought, erosion and pests. Key information and instruction about pest and disease control, especially early warning systems, new varieties, new ways to optimize production quality control is given to the farmers.

MOBILE Q&A SERVICES IN AGRICULTURE

ICT can connect rural communities to available knowledge Mobile Q &A services have been piloted in the Agricultural Clinics to keep the farmers with the updated information. Mobile Q&A is online advisory service; customers get answers within one to two days.

RELEVANT AGRICULTURE INFORMATION FOR DIFFERENT AGENCIES TAKING PART IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE

It is generally accepted that information to sustain and increase Agricultural production is spread over different agencies, notably Farmers, universities, research institutes, extension services, Commercial enterprises and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). ICT is the only source which linked all the above different agencies together.

IMPROVING MARKET ACCESS

Awareness of up-to-date market information on prices for farmers is one of the application of ICT, and it can improve farmers Livelihoods substantially and have a dramatic impact on their Negotiating position. The updated information enables to sell and buy the good at best time and places. Simple websites have been launched for this purpose, these websites offering marketing and trading functions typically price information is collected at the main regional markets and stored in a central database and these information’s are accessible to farmers through information centers. This information is also broadcasts through Radio, television, or mobile phone.

ROLE OF ICT IN FERTILIZERS

ICT can be used for exchange of fertilizers information through the internet, mobile, television. Because fertilizers increases the production and This production has to be improved as by the demand of the market. The conditions and for casts of weather, soil conditions and market intelligence is to be monitored regularly. The ICT can be used to overcome this problem to certain extent. ICT can play a major role in production planning, smooth plant operations, logistics, efficient sales operations, checking the production and marketing costs, safeguarding market share and providing efficient customer services.

ICT AND WEATHER

Special sensors are used to collect data of climate including humidity and temperature of the environment then information are deliver to the farmers using television, internet or mobile service. And according to the condition they are informed about the related information .

E BOOKS IN AGRICULTURE

A large number of books have been written in agriculture, which is available on internet in electronic format E books are very easy to purchase as compared to printed books and easy to download’s, books enable the educated farmers to take the benefits from these books because book is like a teacher, and directs the farmers what to do whenever the problem in agriculture certain occasion arises.

PRECISION FARMING

it is one of the most important applications of ICT in the development of agriculture. It generally uses satellite signals in order to find the position of farmers in the fields. The farmers use antennas in order to receive the signal from the satellite in space. The farmers connect the antenna to a receiver which he combines with a computer. Through the computer then the farmer collects all of the information about the field. Precision farming enable the farmers to use the seeds and chemicals in each part of the field properly.

THE GRAIN CHAIN and ICT

The grain chain deals with the way in which the grains are sowed, harvested, milled and the preparation of different types of food contents from it.
ICT is involved in the grain chain from the initial to the final stage. The sowing of seed can be done by automatic sowing machines (A KIND OF AGROBATS) . In harvesting the (AGROBATS ) are used. After harvesting the flak are then packed through automatic robotic system (WHICH IS AN APPLICATION OF ICT) machines and make them prepare for.

SLUGBOT

SLUGBOT is a robot that is used to track, capture and dispose slugs. Slug is a kind of insects; they eat the leaves of growing crops like lettuce and put big holes in fruit like tomato. SLUGBOT uses special sensors and cameras to find the slugs.
