A. INTRODUCTION

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are only part of continuum of technologies with chalk and books. ICT, especially internet plays an important role in the Education sector, especially in the process of empowering the technologies into educational activities. ICT bring a better balance between equity and excellence in education that is why the rate of adoption of new technologies either by the Teachers and students is unrelenting.

B. AIMS OF ICT IN EDUCATION.

1) Transformation of Information and knowledge into innovative skills.
2) Increasing the creativity, productivity and competitiveness.
3) Reconciliation of universality and local specificity of knowledge.
4) Implementation of principle of life-long learning.
5) Development of distance education with national contents.
6) Promotion of culture of learning at school.

C. ICT IMPACT ON WHAT IS LEARNED.

Traditional teaching has emphasized content. Old teachers are taught through lectures and presentations and explained with tutorials. These contemporary setting are now facing circula that promotes performance and competency.

By using ICT technologies, we can get High output by putting low Input. Alternatively it is possible that we get low Output by putting High Input without using ICT.

Platform Learning.

Learning platform refers to a combination of IT services that support Learning and teaching. By a learning platform, hardware, software and other supporting services are brought together to enable more effective ways of working within and outside the classroom. They can vary considerably, but a learning platform should provide a range of ICT based functions, that include:

  1. Individual learning space.
  2. Learning surroundings.
  3. Content management.
  4. Learner engagement.

Competency and performance based circula.

Information and communication technologies greatly support the competency and performance-based curricula. Such curricula tend to require:

  1. Original settings and examples; and teachers as coaches and trusted adviser rather than content expert;
  2. To approach a variety of information sources.
  3. To approach a variety of information forms and types.

D. HOW TO EFFECTIVELY USE ICT IN EDUCATION.

ICT (Information and Communication technology) mainly includes Computer and Computer technologies (Internet). Computer and Internet combined can be used in education in many ways. Internet has made the whole world a global village. We can share lectures with our friends at any part of the world.

Distance Learning.

Distance Learning means to get education in our home through different ICT technologies. Internet is the most important among all of these technologies.

According to ELLSWORTH.

• The potential for the Internet to provide computer-mediated communication will present unique opportunities and challenges for education in the future.
• The educational institutions, to survive, must change the way they do business.
Modern education by Ellsworth
Nowadays we can access formal or informal Education through different online commercial services. They mainly include;

• AMERICA ONLINE
• COMPUSERVE
• DELPHI
• E-WORLD (APPLE)
• GENIE
• PRODIGY

We can find all these educational forums by finding Distancelearning forums on the net. Some of these are discussion forums while some are learning forums.

Using the E-Mail.

Electronic mail, or e-mail, refers to personal communication, which is a wonderful tool for communicating education over Internet. Some teachers use e-mail as a teaching tool, placing entire lessons, assignments, questions and answers on the Net. Obviously, this works only if all students have regular access to computers and the Internet.

Newsgroup.

Newsgroups refer to discussion groups on a number of topics. In education, reading and posting at two Usenet Newsgroups, alt.education.distance.and alt.education.research, contributes to an understanding of crucial issues such as degree acceptance in different career fields, regional attribution, state approval, federal regulations, and credit for life experience, tuition costs, the Internet's role and future trends. Other relevant groups in higher education include alt.education.alternative, misc.educationand misc.education.adult. Misc.education encompasses a wide variety of topics in addition to distance learning, including homeschooling. Because neither newsgroup is moderated, the atmosphere is informal.

World Wide Web.

The World Wide Web (WWW) is a popular part of the Internet. It resembles to a massive collection of electronic libraries. The Web is a system of linking documents through hypertext and hypermedia. Browsers usually are included with our commercial online service, or we may purchase browser software such as Lynx, Mosaic, Cello or Netscape. Mosaic and Netscape are rapidly becoming the most popular browser software because they have image and sound capabilities.

On the World Wide Web, we can also find the medical resources from the VirtualHospital. On this Website, a medical database is available.
.

E. The Role of Modern Networks in the Education of the Future.

Everyone can access to high-quality education through a global network of online libraries, multimedia computers, student-centered classroom but that that cannot be accomplished simply in a day. But this is of course a compelling vision of future, but no one knows the details, methods, capabilities, and even principles necessary to design such future.

Advanced Internet in High-Quality Education.

For distributed learning we should have an advanced internet that can support the rich variety of communications and interaction required at any location, at an affordable cost. It shows how the advanced Internet will be the first affordable system that can meet all of the basic access requirements of the new learning model, both on campus and outside, and how some of these developments will be driven and partially funded by a massive convergence of three global communications technologies into one.

Related Critical Technologies.

Educational institutions offer courses that are basically based on readings, presentations, exhibits, examples, and other supporting information. Such information is usually searched and gathered through utilizing the services offered on the internet because nowadays all the information present in the traditional libraries can be now is uploaded into digital libraries.

The Future Internet.

Internet has improved itself a lot with respect to both performance and costs. Millions of signals can now be squeezed into space that used to carry one. Networks of fiber-optic cables costing billions of dollars are being used by different communication companies to create a global network. Carole A Brone and Mark A Luker.

F. Conclusion.

If we compare our world today with the world one hundred years ago, we would observe amazing advances in science, commerce, health care, transportation, and countless other areas. In education, there is also huge advancement. Computers have changed the way we work, be it any profession. Therefore, the role of computers in education has been given a lot of prominence in the recent years. Computers play a vital role in every field. They aid industrial processes; they find applications in medicine; they are the heart of the software industry; they play a vital role in education. In education, there are countless uses of computers.

In the countries like ours, if we want to construct the foundation of ICT, we have to construct the following.
